First India-South Africa Immigration & Consular Working Group Meeting

     Inaugural India-South Africa Immigration & Consular Working Group Meeting was held on Wednesday, 31 January 2024 at the Department of Home Affairs. The Indian delegation was led by Dr KJ Srinivas, Joint Secretary (CPV), Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India and the South African delegation by Mr. M. Matthews, Acting Deputy Director General: Immigration Services of Department of Home Affairs, Government of South Africa. The two sides discussed ways to further strengthen people-to-people contacts between the two countries by facilitating consular access and early resolution of consular grievances including through systematic information sharing and cooperation on visas.

2. Earlier the day, the Indian delegation held discussions with South African Department of Justice and Constitutional Development, Department of International Relations and Cooperation as well as South African Police Service on cooperation on security issues, extradition cases and mutual legal assistance.

3. Both sides agreed to hold the next round of Immigration & Consular Working Group Meeting in India in 2025 at a mutually convenient date.
