Vande Bharat Mission(VBM)-phase 3: Non scheduled commercial flight of Air India from Johannesburg to Delhi and Mumbai on 18 June 2020

As part of the Vande Bharat Mission(VBM)-phase 3, Air India is planning a non-scheduled commercial flight from Johannesburg to Delhi and Mumbai on 18 June 2020 subject to the approval from the Government of South Africa.

The following conditions have been laid down for travel on the flights :

a) Priority will be given to compelling cases, including migrant workers/ laborers who have been laid off, short term visa holders with expired/expiring visas, persons with medical emergency/ pregnant women/ elderly, those required to return to India due to death of a family member and students.

b) The airfare will have to be borne by the individual.

c) All travelers must undergo 14 days mandatory quarantine in India i.e. 7 days paid institutional quarantine at their own cost, followed by 7 days self-isolation at home with self-monitoring of health.

d) Only for compelling and exceptional reasons such as human distress, pregnancy, death in the family, serious illness and parent(s) accompanied by children below 10 years, as assessed by receiving states, home quarantine may be permitted for 14 days.

e) Domestic operations have started in India from 25 May 2020. However, International passengers cannot take domestic flights without completing the mandatory period of quarantine in Delhi or Mumbai.

f) All travelers are required to give an Undertaking which is enclosed.

g) Only asymptomatic travelers will be allowed to undertake the journey.

h) Installing Aarogya Setu app on arrival in India is mandatory.

3) Data of Indian citizens stranded in South Africa and the Kingdom of Lesotho is being compiled in this regard. Indian nationals wishing to return to India are requested to provide requisite details in the format enclosed and the Undertaking, to the Indian Consulate/ High Commission of India as per the jurisdiction mentioned below. Those who have already registered with the Indian High Commission or the Indian Consulates regarding the return to India need not send the details again. Overseas citizens of India (OCI) card holders are permitted to travel under certain conditions (Minors on OCI, with parents being Indian nationals abroad, family emergencies like death in the family, couples where one spouse is an OCI and the other is an Indian, with permanent residence in India, university students who are OCIs (not legally minors), but parents living in India) subject to approval of the Government of South Africa.
