Press Release -Guidelines for travel of stranded Indians to India by non-scheduled commercial flights

It has been decided by Government of India that stranded Indians can travel to India by non-scheduled commercial flights which include aircraft chartered by stranded Indian sea-farers, company-hired labourers, Indian Associations, Unions, Welfare Groups and private charter flights arranged by Indians having the means to do so. The entire cost of travel has to be borne by the passengers and /or the organizer.

These flights from South Africa to India must adhere to following conditions:

(i) Only stranded Indian nationals can travel.

(ii) The proposal for charter flights along with the duly filled in proforma must be submitted to High Commission of India, Pretoria ( dhc.pretoria@mea.gov.in & da.pretoria@mea.gov.in) for approval.

(iii) The charter flights must operate as ferry aircraft (i.e. empty or cargo) on the return journey out from India.

(iv) The passengers travelling on such flights must abide by the guidelines set down by the Government of India including undergoing of compulsory institutional quarantine at their own expense.

(v) The Passengers will only be allowed to take onward domestic flights after completion of compulsory institutional quarantine in India.
